Not A “Moment” Too Soon

This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Sprint

I was once under the impression that data phones were for 3 types of people: business leaders, techies, and snobs. Although I would have loved to get my hands on one, I couldn’t justify a data plan + snazzy phone for my SAHM (Stay at Home Mom) status.  Nor did I know that data phones offer so many helpful applications and organizational tools for motherhood.samsung-moment

Thanks to an opportunity via BlogHer, I’ve been able to try out a Samsung Moment.  It’s a touchscreen phone loaded with Google Android applications including Google Talk (instant messenger), Google maps (with navigational capabilities), Gmail, etc.

So how has my Samsung Moment helped me as a mom?

A variety of ways…

~ Recipes in the kitchen without having to print a hard copy or look out of a cookbook

~ Pictures on the go and easy to share.  It takes better pictures than my first point and shoot camera. (3.2 megapixel)

~ Calendars - I’m able to sync my husband and my personal and set up reminders for the event at the interval I choose (1 day before, 15 minutes before, etc.)

~ Navigational turn by turn directions and maps. (Lifesaver!)

~ Weather Forecast/Current Conditions for Any Location

~ Bible – multiple versions, subject look up

~ Toddler LockAllows the kids to “play” with the phone without causing any damage, all while they play with shapes/colors/music

~ Pandora – Streaming music based on your own preferences (Because good tunes can make your day.)

~ Connections – text messaging with a slide-out Qwerty keyboard, Twitter Applications, Internet, and very clear voice quality (you can’t tell it’s a cell phone)

And when in a real bind entertaining the quads there’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the SprintTV application.

DSC_5792c

DSC_5802c

The only real downside to my new Moment? Battery Life. (Which I hear is the downfall of ALL data phones.) I have to charge it everyday or more if I use it continuously. I’ve recently discovered that using wireless over the 3G and a task killer application helps reserve battery life.

Overall, I’m super pleased with the capabilities and connection perks that come with a Smartphone. And it all happened not a “Moment” too soon!

Here’s a MOMENT you don’t want to miss!

I find that one of the most effective ways to communicate with my teen twin daughters is by texting. That's their preferred mode of communication, and sometimes I find that it is the best way to reach them. They are very active and on the go, and we could use texting to stay updated about when and where to pick up and drop off. They could send me reminders ... "Mom, I forgot my .... Can you bring my .... Do you know where I left my ...."

We spend every other weekend with my in-laws at their house on the lake. They have NO internet access out there - not even dial up! It is ridiculous to me! I'm so using to being "connected" all the time that it drives me nuts to be without my email or unable to keep track of my twitter, ebay auctions, things I'm selling on amazon, etc! This would be so handy to take along with for those weekend getaways! Thanks for the chance!

I travel a lot for work, and have family all over, so I constantly feel the need to stay connected. Thank goodness for my cellphone, but it can be hard to find net access, etc. So with the Sprint Now Network I could stay in touch with family and friends in my inner circle and not worry about feeling "far away" even 3000 miles apart. Thanks!

I've been limping along with an old (3 yrs) windows mobile device, which doesn't do all it is supposed to, let alone all the Samsung Moment is able to! I'd be thrilled to actually have e-mail, in addition to syncing schedules, pulling recipes, and keeping my contact list up to date!! I so want to try an Android phone, looked at one just this week. Very cool phone, by the way! (Do you suppose it would work as a supra lock box key? I'm a real estate agent!)

I travel with my job 40% of the time. Opening up my computer, connecting to the internet (if available), loggin on, etc is so frustrating to write down dates, not to metion trying to coordinating activities for the kids (I have 3), date night, birthday parties, etc. The sprint now network would enable me to talk to my family more, schedule activities in no time without double booking, have easy access to pictures of my kids when I'm missing them. This phone would be a blessing.

I am finally ready to "upgrade" to a data phone and am trying to make a decision on which to purchase now that our contract is up. So, I'm shopping around. I want/need a phone where I can plug in mine and my husband's schedule along with the 50 million things I need to be reminded of in regards to my 5 children's schedules. I also need something with a keyboard because my husband texts more than any teenage girl. That's his prefered way to communicate, so I need a keyboard so that I can type faster. Something that could entertain the kids would be a nice bonus, but honestly, it needs to be VERY user friendly because I am VERY technologically challenged!

My email address is on my blog. If I win the giftcard, it will for sure go to purchasing a new phone for this SAHM that is somehow never at HOME...since she's usually in the car thanks to her husband and kids..lol.

I have 3 kids including a set of twins, and I'd LOVE something to distract/entertain them without damaging the phone when I'm out and about, especially at the dr.'s office and the store. I feel exactly the same way, my SAHM status doesn't necessarily justify a data phone, but I'd love one anyway.

As an elementary school teacher and someone who still uses an "old fashioned" desk calendar and planning book, I couldn't think of anything more useful! To have the ability to have all my information for meetings, parent contacts, school calendar, student birthdays, lesson plans and personal appointments along with the ability to have the information travel with me from home to the classroom would be amazingly helpful. The ability to have a camera to capture a "special" moment in the classroom would also be exciting. The possibilities are endless!!!

I like that the Moment has a notification bar that runs along the top and when you get a new email or other notification, it will sit up there. From any screen on the phone, you can swipe down from that notification bar and it will show you any missed calls, and what unread messages you have. I also like the fact that it pulls in your entire contact list from your Google/Gmail account.

The speed of the Now Network from Sprint would help so much. I am a mom of 2 young boys 3 & 6 & I work full-time plus as an administrator over 2 care facilities. Not only am I out and about running around with my boys appointments and schedules alot, but so is true of my job as an Administrator. How the speed of the Now Network from Sprint would help me is that it basically would allow me to access my internet to keep up-to-date on work issues and family issues via my Email from anywhere that I am at. I'd also be able to access my internet for things like mapquesting a location I need to go to or looking up a product online that I need for my kids or for the care home & keep up on news and current events (as the internet is my main source of news). I'd be able to Tweet no matter where I am at (I love Twitter). I'd be able to take pics and share them quickly with friends and family. I'd be able to utilize my calendar& have it synched between computers & send a message to others to put it on their calendar. For me, it seems like there is never enough time in a day to do all that I want to get done, but with the Now Network from Sprint, I'd be able to get more done and utilize my time more efficiently, be more organized and stay in touch with others.

I have a chronically ill child (lung disease bronchiectesis as well as major gastro issues) and a 21 month old baby. Being one half of two full time working parents this phone would allow me to sync with my hubby (he has one for work), sync my own work schedule, keep appts handy and guide me on our two hour trips to Boston when this town girl is in the crazy city looking for medical buildings. Add to that the chance to entretain a 7 year old and 20 month old while waiting for appointments and I am in heaven!
